One has to occupy oneself with the spiritual laws and commandments.
一个人必须让自己遵从于‘spiritual/灵性’的「Laws/法则」和「Commandments/戒律」。
Through this the human urges are pushed somewhat into the background, i.e. they are not as prominent as before.
透过这种方式，「Human Urges/人性的欲求」多少会被推至脑后，也就是说，它们不再像之前那般突出。-[注]
利昂注释：
这里的意思是，透过遵从“spiritual/灵性”的「Laws/法则」和「Commandments/戒律」，让自身「Consciousness/意识」（层面）的注意力转向正面的、积极的、正确的方面，进而摆脱「Human Urges/人性的欲求」束缚在「Consciousness/意识」（层面）的枷锁。
Depending on what you understand as urges:
至于你所理解的‘urges/欲求’：
Purely human urges, e.g. sexuality, or survival instinct , are not bad and must be accepted as a natural attribute.
‘Purely human urges/本能’，例如：「Sexuality/性欲」，或者「Survival Instinct/求生欲」，这些并不是坏的（「Human Urges/人性的欲求」），而是作为一种（人类的）「Natural Attribute/自然属性」…而必须被接受的（现实）。
The natural urges may not be suppressed and must be respected, however not in an excessive and degenerative way.

Self-chastisement is negative behavior that is hampering one’s evolution.
