I was discussing the Meier material with someone the other day regarding the great lack of interest of people in general to know more about it.
前些天，我和某个人就人们（当前）普遍对进一步了解（Billy接触）案例缺乏足够兴趣一事，谈论起了Meier案例。

My friend said that
我朋友说道：

‘well all you can do is put the FIGU material in front of them (or show it to them, something along those lines) and either they want to know more, or they aren’t interested.
‘事实上，你所能做的就是将FIGU资讯摆在他们面前（或者是展示给他们看，大概沿着这条线开展下去），如此，他们要么想要知道的更多，要么不感兴趣。

And leave it at that.

If they have questions then one answers them to the best of one’s ability etc.’

Then that old cliché popped into my head:
之后，那句老话儿突然涌入我的脑海：

‘you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink’.
‘你可以把马儿牵到水边，但你不能迫使它喝水’。

Thinking further on this phrase however it started me thinking a bit more deeply about the implications of this phrase, and how it is actually not so.
然而，在对这句短语做进一步的思考之后，我开始更深入地思考这句短语的（逻辑）意涵，以及实际上为什么不能这么做。

If the horse has been lead, it has not been allowed to come freely, to come on its own accord, from its own impetus.
如果马儿是被牵来的，那它就不是自由地、自愿地，出于自身动力来到（水边）的。-[注]

这里的意思是，马儿来到水边并不是因为它自己口渴，而是被牵到水边的。

Rather it arrives in bridles, bound up in its own chains of beliefs, bound by false assumptions and expectations, tied to the need for estimation, recognition, approval from others.
更确切地说，它是被缰绳牵着到达（水边）的，被捆绑在自身的信仰枷锁之中的，被错误的假设和期望所约束的，（并让自己）受制于…（其从他人那里获得评价、赞赏和认可的）…需求的。

Shackled by fear-based projections from his or her own, or culturally induced, degenerations.
束缚于…源自他（它）或她（它）自身的…基于恐惧的臆想，又或是（束缚于）在文化层面引发的（现实）退化。

Maybe it arrives out of loneliness.
也许，只是出于孤独。

Nevertheless when confronted with concepts that challenge life-long constructs of what reality is and not being ready to honestly look at them, he/she is ready to rear up and kick out in defiance, willingly ready to hurt the person attempting to ‘lead’ them.
尽管如此，在面对挑战…（现实中的宿命究竟为何，而又不准备顺从这一宿命）…的概念之时，他（它）/她（它）会不顾一切地奋起身来，公然地踢出去，意欲伤害那些试图‘lead/牵锁’它们的人。

The horse, or the human being, who is thirsty will come to the water, or the truth, on his or her own accord.
口渴的马儿，或者人类，会基于它们（/他们）自身的意愿来到水边、又或「Truth/真理」的面前。

With no one leading them.
没有人‘leading/牵着’它们（/他们）。

There will always be remnants of bridles and old conditioning hanging off of them, but the fact that they recognise their thirst and have set out on the path to find the water means they’ve taken the first steps on their own.
（虽然它们身上）总会留下缰绳和旧马鞍的残迹，但就它们认知到口渴，并自此踏上寻找水源道路的这一事实，即意味着它们已经迈出了自主的第一步。

So, my friend was right, you can put the ‘water’ in front of them, but if they’re not thirsty, they won’t drink.
所以，我朋友是对的，你可以把‘water/水’放到他们面前，但如果他们并不口渴，他们就不会喝。

No manner of tempting them with sweet apples, cajoling, pleading, trying to explain it with fancy words, is going to make them thirsty.
